The Wake Up Call
We grew up with horses in our blood. From stubborn ponies to high-strung off-the-track Thoroughbreds, a childhood spent at the barn led us to believe we knew horses inside and out. And then came Lola.
Saved from a kill pen in Northern Washington, she didn't just join our family - she pulled back the veil on an industry we thought we understood. Witnessing her standing in that pen was our point of no return. A subsequent trip to the direct-ship lots in Texas officially set our mission in motion. Standing in the dirt, seeing wild, stoic spirits reduced to mere tag numbers in a filthy corral, we knew we couldn't go back to business as usual. It wasn't enough to just love horses. We had to fight for them.

we bridge the gap between wild and domestic
Erin brings an intuitive "feel" for the psychology of the horse, whilst Casey focuses on raw, honest storytelling to expose the systems that failed them. We are here for the heavy lifting: the late-night medical emergencies, the slow-motion rehabilitation of broken spirit, and the relentless advocacy required to pull a mustang back from the brink of the slaughter pipeline.

Two sisters,
one frontline
Rescue Ranchito is a family effort and a lifelong commitment.
We took our passion and our skills into the trenches to stand up for the horses forgotten by the industry - hyper-focusing on the American Mustang, the most vulnerable icon of the West.

Honoring the wild
We don't follow the "standard" rescue model. When you're pulling horses from a slaughter pipeline, speed is a liability. Instead we focus on individualized needs and deep compassion.

To our community, thank you
Rescue is a heavy load to carry, and we couldn't endure it alone.
Whether you have donated funds for a bail-out, shared a horse's story on social media, or welcomed a Mustang from our program into your family, you are the backbone of Rescue Ranchito. You are the reason we can say "yes" when the world says "no".
What started as two sisters with a mission has grown into a community of advocates who refuse to look away. You aren't just supporters; you are partners in this fight. You are the reason these wild spirits get a second chapter, and for that, we - and the horses - are forever grateful.

Decompression First
A Mustang fresh from a kill pen arrive in fear. We give them space, nutrition, and peace first, allowing their nervous system to reset before we ask anything of them.
Earning the 'Yes'
We don't rush our rescues. By using low-pressure horsemanship, we prioritize mental well-being over arbitrary timelines and honour their boundaries.
Lifelong Sanctuary Partners
We value horses for who they are, not what they can do, and support them whether they become mountain partners or sanctuary companions.
Radical Transparency
We don't sugarcoat rescue. By sharing the raw reality, we aren't just saving horses, we're forcing a conversation about the reality of the American Mustang.

Our unique approach

Decompression First

A Mustang fresh from a kill pen is in a heightened state of fear. We don't start training on day one. We provide a soft landing - space, nutrition, and peace - allowing for their nervous system to reset before we ever ask for anything more.

Earning the "Yes"

We don't rush; we wait for them to choose us. Using low-pressure horsemanship, we prioritize mental well-being over arbitrary timelines. We honor their boundaries, knowing that a foundation built on trust is the only one that lasts.

Lifelong Sanctuary Partners

The industry values horses for what they can do. We value them for who they are. Whether they become a mountain partner or a lifelong sanctuary companion, we ensure their future is dictated by their unique needs and skillset.

Radical Transparency

We don't sugarcoat the rescue world. By sharing the raw, unedited reality of the rehabilitation process, we aren't just saving individual horses - we're forcing a conversation about the reality of the American Mustang.

A small, hands on team committed to doing right by every mustang we rescue.
