Beating the Deadline
At nine years old, Crow found himself in the Fabrizius livestock kill pen with a strict ship-to-slaughter date. Originally from the Silver King HMA in Nevada, this beautiful black mustang was out of time and out of options. Erin immediately drove all the way from Utah to pay his bail and pull him to safety before he could be sent across the border.
May to November -
Searching for the Right Fit
Rehabilitation isn't always a straight line. For his first six months, we tried a couple of different trainers, but Crow just wasn't clicking with their programs. We knew we had an incredibly athletic, spirited horse who wanted to lead the way, but an unpredictable bucking issue kept lurking beneath the surface, making him unsafe to ride. We knew we just had to find someone who spoke his language.
November 2025 -
The Turning Point
In November, everything changed when we finally matched him with the perfect trainer. It clicked instantly. Through the right approach, Crow quickly realized he didn't have to resort to bucking anymore. As soon as that mental block was cleared, his true, friendly, and charming personality blossomed. He hit the trails with his new team, quickly proving himself to be a willing partner who is happy to ride all day long.
Spring 2026 -
Big Things in Petite Packages
Crow is now fully rehabilitated and officially ready for adoption! He has a huge heart, and he just wants to go. We see incredible potential for him as an endurance horse, a working ranch horse for a confident kid, a fast barrel racer, or an eventing pony. He is the absolute perfect match for a competitive, adventurous youth or an adult rider looking for a bold, all-day mountain partner.

January 2020 -
Born in the Wild
Sundance was born in early 2020 on the rugged open range of the Red Desert Complex HMAs in Wyoming. His freedom was cut short that fall when, on October 12th, he was captured in a massive, month-long BLM roundup alongside 2,500 other wild horses.
2023 – 2026 From Adoption to Kill Pen
After being gentled and adopted out by Wild Horse Outreach, Sundance's exact journey went dark. Like so many "half-baked" mustangs, he fell through the cracks of a broken pipeline. He was likely traded hands until June 2026, when he was sent to auction and ultimately purchased by kill buyers.
2020 – 2023 The Holding Pens
For the next three years, Sundance became a number in the system. He stood in the now-defunct BLM holding facility at the Colorado Department of Corrections in Cañon City—a crowded complex that housed up to 3,000 wild horses and burros. In July of 2023, he got what
should have been his lucky break: Wild Horse Outreach and Advocacy pulled him, and one of their on-staff trainers gentled him.
Present Day - The Safety Net
Rescue Ranchito could not let Sundance languish in a kill pen with an unknown fate. Today, he is safe. He is currently resting in quarantine to decompress before entering our formal training program late this summer. Sundance is an incredibly sweet horse who clearly wants to connect, but his demeanor shows the weariness of an animal repeatedly let down by humans. He will be available for adoption to the perfect
home in early 2027. We actively encourage interested adopters to reach out early, get to know him, and be a part of his ongoing training journey.
