2018 to 202 -
Born in the Wild
Flint was born in 2018 on the open range of the Antelope Valley Herd Management Area in Nevada. He lived free for two years until he was rounded up in late 2020.
2020 -
The Prison Training Program
After his capture, Flint spent eight months being gentled at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City. This well-known BLM partnership program pairs unhandled mustangs with inmates, teaching the men natural horsemanship and vocational skills while giving the wild horses a foundational start to prepare them for domestic life. Following his time in the program, Flint was adopted out into private hands in late 2020.
2020 to 2026 -
Falling Through the Cracks
Once again, the system failed a mustang. It is completely unknown how many different owners Flint had over the next five and a half years, or if anyone ever continued his training under saddle. Whatever his journey was, it ended with this deeply special, old-souled horse being dumped at the Stroud, Oklahoma kill pen.
Present Day -
Setting the Pace
We bailed Flint in the spring of 2026. He traveled to a trusted quarantine facility in Texas, where he fell extremely ill with a severe respiratory infection picked up from the kill pen. Thanks to dedicated medical attention, he made a full recovery and arrived at The Refuge on May 31st. Flint’s eyes hold the weight of many stories and emotions, and we are letting him completely set the pace. He will spend the rest of the summer just rehabbing and being showered with love. He will likely be available for adoption in the summer of 2027. We feel so honored to help him on his path, and if this incredible boy speaks to you, please reach out—we love for our adopters to get involved early in the training process!
