August 2025 -
The Bowie Livestock Interception
Just days before a massive monthly shipment, we spotted Dunlin on the Bowie Livestock Auction page. Knowing he was at high risk of being loaded onto a truck bound across the border, we stepped in immediately to intercept his path through the livestock pipeline and secure his freedom.
Late August 2025 -
Arrival and Decompression
Dunlin arrived at Rescue Ranchito in good physical condition, though his nervous, "watchy" mental state heavily reflected the trauma of the auction environment. Yet, beneath that early caution, an incredibly curious and "in-your-pocket" spirit was already fighting to shine through—a rare and beautiful trait to see intact after surviving the kill pen pipeline.
Fall 2025 -
The Fundamentals of Trust
During three months of professional training, Dunlin moved past his early hesitation through kind, low-pressure gentling. He mastered his essential ground manners, learned to confidently pick up his feet, and established the crucial groundwork necessary for accepting a saddle.
Winter 2025 to Present -
Building a Trail Partner
Dunlin has now entered his next phase of training to become a dependable trail mount. His goofy, inquisitive personality has fully emerged, and he loves being involved in everything happening around the ranch. We are just waiting for the perfect adopter to discover the confident, willing partner we get to see every single day.
