2014 -
Origins & the BLM System

Fennec was rounded up from the Salt Wells Creek HMA on October 1, 2014. He spent approximately two and a half years in government holding before being adopted in May 2017. While the details of his next seven years are unknown, he eventually fell through the cracks of the domestic world.

Fall 2025 -
Assessment and Advocacy

We spent nearly a year working with Fennec to understand his needs. It eventually became clear that at 18 years old, it would be unfair to re-start him or force him into a life of riding. We believe that after a lifetime of navigating human expectations, Fennec earned the right to simply exist without a job.

January 2025 -
The Eaton Intervention

We pulled Fennec from a kill pen in Eaton, Colorado, at the start of 2025. Based on his spirit and condition, we initially thought we had rescued a young horse. It wasn't until we sent his freezemark to the BLM that we discovered the truth: Fennec was a late teenager with a long history behind him.

October 2025 -
Life in Sanctuary

In October 2025, Fennec was placed in a permanent, large-scale sanctuary alongside Coyote. Free from the pressures of training and the threat of the slaughter pipeline, he now spends his days in the open air, thriving in a herd environment that honors his wild roots.
