Origins in the High Desert
Mantis’s story began in the rugged terrain of the Adobe Town HMA, where he was gathered as a baby on November 23, 2021. He left the wild as part of a large-scale gather, moving quickly from the range into the domestic system.
April 2022 -
The First Chapter
In the spring of 2022, Mantis was adopted and began his life away from the herd. He remained with a single dedicated owner for nearly three years, receiving a solid foundation of care and handling until life circumstances changed and he required a new path forward.
2025 -
Starting Under the Saddle
Since arriving at the ranch, Mantis has entered our formal training program. He has taken to the work with remarkable focus and a "try" that is rare to see. He has been started under saddle, and he has exceeded every expectation, handling each new milestone with a level head and a willing spirit.
Today -
A Bright Horizon
In late February, Willet entered his second phase of under-saddle training, where he is spending two months refining his skills. This amazingly sweet, calm-natured gelding is shaping up to be a fantastic family horse, perfect for mellow trails or arena work. While best suited for an intermediate rider right now, he has the temperament to eventually become a beginner and kid-safe mount. He will be ready to meet his forever family in early summer 2026.

Mantis is currently thriving and will continue to refine his skills as a riding partner. Mantis is built for the trail and we expect that he will end up being an amazing trail partner. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our handsome Wyoming mustang.
